About the Client
Dr. Lyle Dennis is not only a GM-Volt enthusiast, he’s a marathon runner and a successful neurosurgeon. In 2010, Dr. Dennis asked us to redesign his GM-Volt site and take it from tan and drab to green and electric. We also redesigned his vBulletin forum at the same time, integrating the web site design into the forum.
The first iteration of the site, back in 2007, was running a popular WordPress theme:
Then it was professionally redesigned around 2009:
It was this design that we were handed and asked to brighten up.
The challenge was to take the drab color palette and create something memorable. We also created a few custom plugins along the way. The doctor wanted a fast-loading site, as the cite had gained a huge following after some serendipitous media exposure.
As well, we created several custom ad banners for the site a the site was being monetized at the time.
We nailed the design on the first try, incorporating the Volt’s grill design into the background for the site. The coll and clean silver and green palette was a big hit. In fact, one site member had this to say about the new design:
The new look is as cold and clinical as a Nazi death camp operating room, and as warm and inviting as Charlie Manson’s smile. I LIKE IT!
Bringing it All Together
At the conclusion of the project. Dr. Dennis had a clean and vibrant design, coordinating ad banners, some custom plugins, a well-designed vBulletin forum and some very happy readers.
