Last week, I featured ten drop-dead gorgeous web sites running on Chris Pearson’s Thesis theme for WordPress. Just to illustrate how customizable this theme really is, this week, I am focusing on small business and professional web sites using Thesis.
And not just using Thesis, but using it in unique and beautiful ways. What kind of Thesis site makes the Pixelita cut? Well, it has to be running Thesis of course. And not an out of the box or even moderately tweaked Thesis site. It should be very well customized (I don’t want to see those telltale curly braces showing off your comments!). As you can see from this selection, the businesses who have found Thesis run the gamut from lawyers to marketers to corporate branding firms to hospitals to roofing and construction companies. Why? They are capitalizing on Thesis’ built-in SEO, for one thing. And when you’re running a business, this is nothing to sneeze at.
So enjoy the presentation and if you would like a Thesis-powered web site, just contact us!
Sea Breeze Beach Hotel
INDUSTRY: Hospitality
This is a nice example of a hotel using Thesis to drive its site. The site also uses a plugin called WPReviewSite for its hotel reviews. The only thing that bothers me about this design is the Frequently Asked Questions in the lower right (sidebar). The line height doesn’t match that of the rest of the site and looks too cramped on the verticle axis. Other than that, a well done Thesis site.
Steve Hill Roofing
INDUSTRY: Roofing/Construction
This is a great example of a small business using the Thesis theme. The design is quite clever and somewhat playful, and there’s nary a hint of Thesis under the hood. One aside. I do think that the site could make better use of Page Titles. As you can see, it’s simply the page’s title in the title bar, instead of the company name.
Ennova
Industry: Software Development
This is a very content-rich site, with many pages and subpages and Thesis is an excellent choice for this kind of site. It handles elegantly many types of static pages along with post content. The design is crisp and sleek and doesn’t scream Thesis.
Harrington & Myers
INDUSTRY: Law
This is a great example of a law firm web site using Thesis. The design is from Rowboat Media. It has lots of whitespace and the navigation is clear and concise, just what someone who’s looking for a bankruptcy attorney needs, considering their likely harried state of mind. I just love the domain name: swamplaw.com! Want to see more lawyer/legal web sites using Thesis? Don’t worry, I’ll be doing a special Thesis Showcase just for that next week!
R2 Technologies
INDUSTRY: Staffing/Placement Services
This is a well-put together business site with a nice design that doesn’t scream Thesis. It uses posts to create job bank listings, the site’s owner uses Twitter to promote his business services, there’s a handy calendar of events. It really does showcase how businesses can exploit WordPress in general, and Thesis in particular, to capitalize on good SEO, marketing, and getting their services before more of the surfing public.
Joni Mueller has been designing web sites for hire since 2003, when she first blew up her web host’s server by insisting on running Greymatter. Since then, Joni has designed for Blogger and Movable Type, TextPattern, WordPress and CMS Made Simple. She lives with her cat and shoe collection in a bucolic old section of Houston called Idylwood. For some strange reason, Joni likes to refer to herself in the third person. When she’s not working on web design, she’s ordering lawyers around. And blogging about it. Or both.
How about my site, http://ratenerd.com? Would love to get your thoughts!
I see you used the graphic from http://www.ThesisGallery.com. If you would like one that is not chopped up and pixelated, let me know and I’ll send you one….
