  • Your Web Site Domain

  • Note: Although you are free to use any domain registrant you choose, we enthusiastically recommend Name Cheap (https://www.namecheap.com).
  • Due to the complexity of installing and hosting store-building software and relational databases, it is important that you accept our recommendations for Web hosting services. We charge for the additional time expended installing and configuring stores on Web hosting services other than those we recommend. On the other hand, we have shopped for the best cost/performance/reliability in Web hosting services. We do not resell hosting, but have you arrange your own contract with approved hosting services.

  • Your Online Store

  • A substantial part of the cost of developing a store is in preparing the product photos. But, of course, they are often what motivate people to purchase.
  • Typical product information needed (depending upon the complexity of your site): SKU, Product Name, Product Description, Weight, Price, Picture File Name, Category, Subcategory, Related product SKUs for cross-selling, color/size option of SKU, other descriptive fields (such as ISBN for books), etc. These will usually be fields in a spreadsheet or database.
  • The larger the store, the more categories you'll need. Site menus and search engines use these categories to group products so shoppers can find them quickly. We'll need a list of these from you. You'll also need to put the category and subcategory(ies) in fields in your database.
  • Shipping

  • Shipping Areas or Zones (6 included at no extra charge). Many merchants start with UPS zones and then average them so there are 3 or 4 zones for the continental US or other major market area. In the US, you will probably also have zones for Canada, and Alaska/Hawaii. For international customers state: "We will calculate the exact shipping amount and charge it to your card prior to shipping."
  • Payment

  • SSL Secure Servers use a Digital Certificate signed by a recognized authority (currently VeriSign or Thawte) which tells the shopper's Web browser that the store is what it purports to be. The configuration of some Web hosting services requires each store to have its own Digital Certificate (at a cost of several hundred dollars per year). Others allow store owners to use the server's digital certificate. If you need a separate Digital Certificate, for an additional fee, we will interface with VeriSign and Thawte for you, saving you a considerable hassle.
  • Once your store appears on the Web you will have a global business. You will get orders from other countries, since many countries are not able to purchase these items locally. How will you make your site more comfortable for international customers?

  • List your three biggest competitors. List their web site URLs if you know them. It would also be helpful if you could comment on their web sites’ strengths and weaknesses.

  • If you want us to incorporate your content into your web site for you, please provide it in Text (.txt), Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) or PDF format.
  • Pixelita Designs performs basic SEO services. This means we create page layouts that are search-engine friendly without sacrificing accessibility for those using a text-based browser. We take care to craft page titles, file and page names so that they are search-engine friendly. Any SEO services beyond the basics that we provide (which are included in the price of your site) will be contracted for separately at our standard hourly rate of $125.
  • Design Considerations

  • In order for us to get some design direction, we ask that you look at web sites similar to yours. Visit your competitors’ sites. Take note of what design elements and features from those sites that you like. Also note areas of your competitors’ sites where you think there is room for improvement. This will help you to be critical of your own web site and what it should and should not contain. If there are other sites on the Internet that you like, submit them to us and tell us what it is about the site that appeals to you. The design? Layout? Typography? Color palette?
  • It’s just as important for us to get a feel for the kind of sites and designs you don’t like. Please take a moment to highlight three web sites whose appearance, design, layout, color palette or other design element you do not like and why.
  • Budget

  • Some people feel uncomfortable stating their budget upfront, fearing that the web design professional will naturally inflate his or her prices to meet the high end of the budget. But just as you would tell your home remodeler what your budget is for a kitchen remodel, we need to know your budget, or at least a ball park. Perhaps your web design wish list exceeds your budget. We can then sit down with you and help you figure out how to best spend your web design dollars. It may be that the web site can be designed in stages, with new features added as your budget permits. If you are not comfortable stating a specific budget, we would appreciate at least a budget range.
